Though it’s celebrated throughout Germany (and worldwide in many places!), the biggest celebration happens in Munich, Bavaria’s capital. Día de Muertos in Oaxaca, Mexico

From the end of October into the first week ofNovember, locals and visitors come together in Oaxaca to celebrate Día de Muertos or Day of the Dead in English. It’s a special celebration in Mexican culture. Throughout the 3 days, it is believed that the veil between this world and the next is especially thin, so spirits are able to come visit their friends and family on Earth. Families help ensure a safe journey by creating beautiful ofrendas or altars in English.

At night, locals visit graveyards where their families and friends have been buried, play music, socialize, drink, and celebrate the dead.

During Day of the Dead in Oaxaca, you’ll see sugar skulls, costumes, and parades. It’s a great experience to immerse yourself in traditional Mexican culture.

Mid-Autumn Festival or Moon Festival in China

Celebrated throughout China as well as Vietnam, Taiwan, and surrounding countries, the Mid-Autumn Festival happens in either September or October and always finishes on the night of a full moon.

The holiday involves family time, lighting paper lanterns, giving thanks, and lots of devouring lots of moon cakes. It’s a gorgeous festival to experience.
